5/11/2023 0 Comments Blood in the Water by Megan DerrFirst off, it's a short story, which always irks me. I loved the previous two books but this one was pretty meh. This short tale features the king Morrin and I can't say I was a fan. The aromantic representation was great, I only wish the book had been longer and there was more focus on Morrin and his future queen getting to know and like each other - as in, they got to know each other more slowly and gradually rather than the rather aprubt way it is in the book. There were frequent mentions of the characters and events of The Painted Crown, which I adored! I also liked that there was an intersex character, and that Morrin's being aromantic was always respected as well as mentioned directly. The plot around them having found the perfect queen for him was lovely, and I liked how Morrin worked in getting to know her, and she herself was great as well. I liked Morrin and his group of friends, who are in an polyam relationship. Lovely short story that tells the story of how King Morrin's lovers find him a queen and that expands on the Unbreakable Soldiers setting.Ĭontent warnings include: violence mentions of: slut shaming, misogyny, abusive parents, human trafficking, suicide.
